Frequently Asked Questions About Online Therapy in Ohio

Why choose online therapy in Ohio?

Studies show it is as effective, and sometimes more effective than traditional therapy. It allows for mobility yet maintains privacy, and it is easy and convenient. The same proven therapeutic techniques are used during online counseling, but instead of being in the same room, we “see” each other through video conference.

You can access counseling from your home computer, tablet, work computer, or smartphone. If you choose audio, we simply turn the camera off, and you can be active and mobile as we talk. Online therapy eliminates the barriers of traditional office-based therapy, such as finding childcare, coordinating schedules, fear of being seen at the therapist's office, or taking time off work.

This is a powerful option for professionals, business owners, college students, and those who have shy-avoidant personalities. Flexible scheduling allows you to get counseling for stress, anxiety, and self-doubt when you really need it, such as between meetings, during lunch, or before work.

Online counseling sessions mean we are still face-to-face, but we don’t have to struggle to be in the same place at the same time. It also means that partners and loved ones can join sessions, if needed, without juggling schedules and finding times for everyone to be together. Online therapy in Ohio eliminates travel time to and from the therapist.

Does telehealth protect my privacy?

Yes, online therapy is a safe option. Telehealth provides a unique opportunity to do this without compromising confidentiality. Our services are compliant with the standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which governs privacy standards for the electronic transmission of Protected Health Information (PHI).

We do not accept direct payments from insurance providers.

Why don’t you take insurance?

We are passionate about your privacy and want to offer the most effective, compassionate, personalized treatment possible. In many cases, this philosophy directly conflicts with the medical model of insurance companies. In addition, many insurance companies, in exchange for paying part of the cost, limit the number of sessions, the length of sessions, or the type of services provided.

We strongly believe that everyone is unique, and we want to have the freedom to set up the best treatment plan possible to suit your needs, without worrying about whether or not we'll need to terminate services due to arbitrary limits on sessions. It doesn't seem fair to you, and it doesn't fit with our values of providing the best care possible.

Often insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis (i.e., depression, anxiety, PTSD treatment, and trauma therapy) that will become part of your permanent medical file. Not everyone that needs therapy will have a diagnosable disorder. We strive to give you the best experience possible which in our philosophy means not participating in managed care. You and your therapist decide your treatment together every step of the way.

We also use cutting-edge research-backed interventions that most insurance carriers do not cover. Although that may change in the future for now we are committed to delivering the best care possible without insurance-related oversite. Our Safe and Sound Protocol, EMDR Intensives, and asynchronous communication options are examples.

What payments do you accept?

At Winding Road Therapy Group, we accept payment methods including credit/debit cards, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) cards, and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) Cards.
